The shooting death of a woman on San Francisco’s Pier 14 has elicited the usual calls for more gun control, but her murder also brings up serious immigration issues that also affect Chicago.

According to media reports, an undocumented immigrant allegedly shot 32-year-old Kate Steinle on July 1. The man has pleaded not guilty, but it wasn’t his first run-in with police over the last 20 years. He has also been deported five times. … Read the full story.
