Law360: Congress, Ex-Judges Back Census Challenge At High Court

The U.S. House of Representatives, former U.S. Census Bureau directors, ex-federal judges, immigrant advocacy groups and others have thrown their support behind New York state's U.S. Supreme Court challenge to the addition of a citizenship question on the 2020 census.

 

In nearly 40 amicus briefs filed between March 26 and Tuesday, the groups urged the justices to uphold a Manhattan federal judge's finding in January that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross had violated administrative law when he decided to ask about citizenship status on next year's survey, which advocates and local governments have argued will discourage census participation in immigrant-heavy communities. Read the full story at Law360.
