The Daily Independent: Council votes 3 to 2 to join IRLI anti-sanctuary brief

The Ridgecrest City Council on Wednesday voted 3-2 to join the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) amicus brief challenging California’s Sanctuary State legislation. Mayor Pro Tem Michael Mower, Councilwoman Lindsey Stephens and Councilman Wallace Martin voted in favor of joining the brief. Mayor Peggy Breeden and Vice Mayor Eddie Thomas voted in opposition to the motion.

The lawsuit in question was filed by the federal government against the state of California challenging California’s sanctuary state legislation, as contained in three bills: AB 450 (the Immigrant Worker Protection Act), AB 103 (which outlawed immigration detention expansion) and SB 54 (the sanctuary state bill).
