IRLI Praises SCOTUS’s Decision Stopping the President’s Executive Actions Granting Amnesty and Work

Returning the Authority over Immigration to Congress

June 23, 2016

(Washington, D.C.) – The Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) is very satisfied with today’s decision from the Supreme Court to maintain the injunction on the Obama Administration’s unlawful amnesty agenda. IRLI advised the Texas Attorney-General’s office on key facets of the case and filed a total of six friend-of-the-court briefs throughout the case’s proceedings arguing that the President’s executive orders violate administrative law, strips Congress of its plenary authority over immigration, and dismantles the separation of governmental powers under the Constitution. IRLI also provided commentary and published over a dozen opinion pieces with several national news outlets discussing the key elements of the controversial case.

In the Fifth Circuit’s rejection of the Obama Administration’s argument that amnesty could not be reviewed by the courts and that it has the power to hand out open-market work permits to whomever it chooses, the court closely tracked the arguments IRLI made in its brief submitted on behalf of the 26 Plaintiff States. Unfortunately, that highly detailed and well-crafted decision, now affirmed by SCOTUS, will be confined to that circuit only, inevitably giving rise to numerous challenges from the Obama Justice Department, pro-amnesty state attorneys-general, and the juggernaut of heavily financed open-borders advocacy groups. IRLI intends to meet these challenges as they arise and proactively pursue new legal strategies to put an end to Obama’s amnesty agenda for good.

Dale Wilcox, Executive Director of IRLI commented, “We are pleased with the Supreme Court’s decision to halt the Obama Administration’s amnesty plans and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to contribute toward that victory.” Wilcox continued, “Congress never intended for the President to dismantle our carefully-crafted immigration laws by declaring mass amnesty, giving out work permits en masse, and then claim he could never be challenged in court. IRLI will continue to work with patriotic state governments and grassroots activists to beat back the Administration’s drive to dissolve national sovereignty, the rule of law, and economic justice for America’s most vulnerable citizens.”

IRLI is a supporting organization of the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
